Pain Points

Pain Points

The current Goodreads mobile app (as of 2023) has an outdated design with redundant search features, poor navigation, hidden community features, and a lack of intuitive design elements. The design itself does not adequately showcase the app's goals, features, or individual book listings.

Impact:

  • A dynamic, revitalized homepage that greets users and guides them to Goodreads' key features. Implemented a sleek, bottom-tabbed navigation allowing users to quickly access their Homepage, Discover new or trending book titles, and access their saved books in their Bookshelf. Utilizing a grid design layout with rounded-cornered cards significantly enhances the user experience and visual appeal of the interface.

Shifting Perception:

  • By modernizing the app's look and feel, Goodreads can better compete with newer, more aesthetically pleasing reading apps and platforms and attract new users who previously dismissed the app due to its outdated appearance. This redesign signals to users that Goodreads is committed to innovation and user experience, countering the perception of stagnation that has plagued them in recent years. Addressing these user pain points will lead to higher user satisfaction, App Store ratings, and engagement levels.

Streamlined Functionality:

  • The implementation of streamlined functionality in the redesigned Goodreads mobile app has a significant impact on user experience and overall perception of the platform. This streamlining addresses long-standing issues and modernizes the app, enhancing user experience, improving performance, and giving the app a competitive edge. The streamlined design and UI helps users find what they're looking for quickly and easily, increasing the app's value proposition, user retention rates, and engagement rates.
